the club beginnings

Rowing has been enjoyed by Canberrans since Lake Burley Griffin was filled in the early 1960's.

Rowing came to Lake Tuggeranong in the mid 1990's, about ten years after the new lake was filled and as housing development in the Tuggeranong Valley boomed.

The club was the brainchild of Rex Jones, a local who had coached rowing on national teams in New Zealand.

Knowing the great opportunities a rowing club on the southside could offer, Rex went searching for a place to host a club.

Rex found a large expanse in the underbelly of the Tuggeranong College. A hole in a wall, a roller door, boat racking and some second hand boats transformed unused space into a rowing club.

In the formative years, the majority of our club members were at school. The club then recruited a strong contingent of masters rowers who have since competed at Australian Masters Championships.

The club today is growing and has a strong mix of junior, senior and masters rowers. The club aims to continue to offer rowing programs that cater for the whole Tuggeranong community.
